Here's what people are saying about Sun Shadow Mountain!
“I find it exhilarating, as a librarian, to come across local material that shows talent, exuberance, and a love of the arts. Such an offering is Sun Shadow Mountain, poetry and art anthology featuring 38 of San Joaquin County and California’s finest artists. Now, for either the novice or experienced reader, I will be able to turn to something engaging and entertaining. The artwork is breathtaking and I found myself returning again in my read-through of the new publication to Quismondo’s poems (now Anderson), although I enjoyed the line from Marie J. Ross’s work: ‘…when we kissed like cling peaches, on a summer’s rendezvous of trees.’ These 38 artists have made this publication an outstanding one, and an excellent referral tool for any local librarian as well.”
— Mary Jo Gohlke, Librarian, Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library.
“Sun Shadow Mountain bursts with life, ‘Even if we do not understand its meaning,’ writes Gail Lee White, one of the 38 poets, artists and photographers featured in this anthology. Co-editors Donald Anderson and Nikki Quismondo (now Anderson) gather a community of emotional but accessible poems, trying to find, says Lance Wesley Hudson, ‘a place to place my love.’ We embark with them on a voyage to find meaning, even as we endure alienation. In Sun, we burn bright with possibility; in Shadow, we seek respite from fear, and ultimately, we face our Mountain, real or imagined, with courage and grace. Anderson and Quismondo offer many poems, paintings and photographs of their own. Between the voices of others, their work calls and echoes across chasms of the heart.”
— Paula Sheil, Poet, Writer, San Joaquin Delta College English Faculty Member.
“Donald R. Anderson and Nikki Quismondo (now Anderson) have put together a handsome— and, by poetry standards, hefty (170 pages)—collection of poetry, art, and photography, featuring a wide variety of poets and artists, most of whom come from the Northern California region. As a Nor Cal girl, it’s a joy for me to see local publishers focusing on our beautiful state, with its sun, its shadows and its mountains celebrated on the page this way in visuals and in words. Donald and Nikki are to be commended for all this hard work, and for the beautiful end result.”
— Kathy Kieth, Rattlesnake Press, Sacramento, CA.
